A Secret and a Picnic

On Tuesday, Ben picked us up, and we had a really fun morning with Bart at his job. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any pictures
or write about it. You can ask me later :)

However, I can say that we were at the famous Bablesberg Studios. The oldest studio in the world, it has been in operation continuously since 1912. Metropolis and Riefenstahl's famous Hitler propaganda film Triumph of the Will were filmed here. It was really interesting, and I think it will be cool to teach my film class about it. Here's a peek at the studio.

Here is Bart and Kurt's office. It's basically empty now since the film is about done. The whole crew was packing up.

We met a bunch of really cool and nice people on their crew. We especially liked the Aging and Dying department. They were using all kinds of tools and dyes to make the costumes look a certain age or like they had been through a specific event. I think I would be really good at that because I'm aging and dying more everyday! We used their washers and dryers to do our laundry.

After our busy morning, we all went down to the river, which is a few blocks from the studio, for a picnic lunch. We picked up awesome pizzas and salads from a little place in Potsdam which is the old wealthy enclave of a town where the studio is located. The homes are old and beautiful--especially the ones along the river. It was fun to sit and chat with some of Bart's crew while we noshed by the river.

These are the stairs we walked down from the street to get to the riverbank. On the left side there are boards used as ramps for people to roll their bikes up.

After lunch Ben took us back to museum island and then took Bart back to work and John back to the WA to nap.

We saw more beautiful art like these two princesses.
And then we walked and metroed our way back home.

And look! They have my favorite store!
